The previous method of handling missing Held items involved checking the missing item out to a system card (MISSINGHOLD) before marking it missing. The Leap 7.4 update enabled cancelling Held holds and simplified the process.

Get a new copy for the patron - Update from Leap 4.7!

Short version: cancel the hold then reactivate it, either through the Patron Record or the Hold Request.

Step-by-step using the Hold Request view:

From Patron Record, select Holds

Click on the title of the hold to open the Hold Request

Select Actions then Cancel

Select Actions again then Reactivate. This will put the patron back in the queue in their original position.

A message may pop up saying Patron is blocked due to other held items. Select Continue.

Now mark the item missing:

From the Hold Request, select History

Highlight and copy the barcode next to the statuses Held or Cancelled (barcodes should match)

Paste the item barcode into Check In – Bulk or Normal

Select No, you do not want to hold the item for the initial patron

Select Yes to reactivate the hold request for the patron

Select the checkbox next to the item in Check In and select Actions

Select Manage Item Record

Select the checkbox next to Circulation Status then change the dropdown to Missing and select OK

For Circulation Managers:

Regularly review the Missing Hold card for lingering check outs from your branch and resolve them. To make this search easier, you can save an Item Record Power Search. Build a Basic Search with Current borrower as "Hold, Missing" and Loaning branch as your branch. Change the search to Power Search and Save the search.

Alternatively you can copy and paste this search string into Item Record Power Search: (PATN == "hold, missing*") AND (LB = PH). Change the Loaning Branch (LB) from PH to your branch code (ex RR, KP, BC).
