What is Library Insider?
Library Insider is a staff-only knowledge base for frequently asked questions about library technology, tasks, training and more. All content is written and researched by your fellow FCPL staff. It is hosted on Springshare's LibAnswers platform, and is available to library staff with a LibAnswers account.
Please see the video below for an introduction to Library Insider.
What kinds of questions should I submit to Library Insider?
The best kinds of questions to submit to Library Insider are those that begin with "How do I...?" or "Why does this...?" You'll find that the knowledge base is a repository for how-tos on FairfaxNet, Polaris Leap, Springshare and more.
Questions that should not be submitted to Library Insider are those about software or hardware not functioning properly (self-checkouts, PCs, printers, payment kiosks, Polaris, SmartPay, Microsoft applications, etc). These should be submitted as DIT tickets so that LIB-IT or DIT Desktop Support staff can address them.
I have a question. How do I submit it to Library Insider?
You can submit questions by clicking on the Submit a Question link on any Library Insider page.
In the question form, enter your question in the Question box, and include more detail in the More Detail/Explanation box to give extra context to your question.
Fill in your name and email at the bottom of the form, then select Submit your Question to complete your request. Your question will be submitted to the Library Insider team.
I have a question, but I also have an answer. Can I send that for inclusion in Library Insider?
Yes! Fill out your question in the Question field, and indicate in the More Details/Explanation field that your answer is attached.
In the form, there is an area to upload attachments to your question. If you already have documentation, screenshots, links, etc, please attach them to your question as a word document and the team will use it to create a post in Library Insider.
Word documents are preferred, as the team will be easily be able to copy/paste any text or save any screenshots you send.
Fill in your name and email at the bottom of the form, then select Submit your Question to complete your request.
