Change a Default Search in Polaris Leap
Select from these options to jump to the section below:
Changing the Default Database Search Setting
Changing Other Default Search Settings
Changing the Columns that Display in Search Results
Resetting the Default Search and Column Settings
Search Box versus Find Tool
You can search for bibliographic records or patrons using the keyword box at the top of the screen for a simple search or use the Find tool for more advanced searches.
Changing the Default Database Search Setting
The Find Tool opens with a Patron search as the default. You can change the search database each time you open the Find Tool or you can set your preferred database as the default.
To do so, click the star next to the database you’d like to have as your new default.
When the dialog box opens that says “Change the default search database to “Bibliographic Record”?”, click on Save.
If you close and reopen the Find Tool dialog box, it will now show Bibliographic Record as the default search database.
Changing Other Default Search Settings
In addition to the database, you can change and save other search settings in Polaris Leap. For example, you can change the Bibliographic Record search mode (Basic Search, Browse, Power Search), search qualifier (Author, Title, Assigned Branch) and search relation (Keyword (All), Exact, Phrase).
Set the search criteria you want (in the example below, the search mode is Basic Search, the search qualifier is Title, and the search relation is Exact)
After you change these settings to the search criteria you want, click the star at the end of the search bar
When a dialog box opens, click the radio button next to “Save the current search and column settings as the user’s default.” and click Save
Changing the Columns that Display in Search Results
In addition to changing the default search settings in the Find Tool dialog box, you can also change and save the columns that appear in your search results. This ability will slightly vary depending on the search settings shown in the Find Tool dialog box.
In the example using the search settings established above, click on the icon with 3 horizontal lines, also called the hamburger menu icon, to the right of the search bar. Then choose Column Settings.
Select the columns you want to display
You can adjust the position of a selected column using the Move Up/Move Down buttons
If desired, you can adjust the width of a selected column
Select the Save button
Resetting the Default Search and Column Settings
If you’d like to change your changed search settings and column settings back to their starting positions, open the Find Tool dialog box and click on the star to the right of the search bar.
In the dialog box that opens, click on the radio button next to “Revert to system default search and column settings”, then click the Save button.
Note: This will not impact the database search setting if you’ve changed it (for instance, if you change the default database from “Patron” to “Bibliographic Record”).
