Q. What is a nature backpack?

The library offers nature-themed backpacks for loan. They can be checked out for two weeks and customers can place holds on them. Search for KIT NATURE BACKPACK in the library catalog. 

The backpacks are available through a partnership with the Library of Virginia, who collaborated with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Science Museum of Virginia. 

These packs are designed to help families, scout groups, homeschoolers and other groups explore nature and learn science concepts while visiting a Virginia State Park. They include:

• A pass to any state park in Virginia
• Pocket guides: Edible Wild Plants, Medicinal Plants, and Weather
• Tarp and paracord
• Leave No Trace cards
• Port-a-bug field observation container
• Dip net
• Learn & Live outdoor skills card
• And more items like star charts and activities guide
